July- 24, 2015 – You’ve heard it right. Michael Jackson at some point of his career wanted to take the role of Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks and make it his own.
In a recent interview with Ahmed Best, the actor who took part in playing the first computer generated character in the franchise as well as lend his voice to Jar Jar Binks revealed that Michael Jackson personally approached director George Lucas in hopes of taking on the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace role.
It should be noted that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is where Jar Jar Binks was first introduced and Jackson wanted to use prosthetics and makeup to make him look the part.
Series creator George Lucas explained that he wanted Jar Jar to be done in CGI and not through Jackson’s means. Ahmed said, ‘Well, Michael wanted to do the part but he wanted to do it in prosthetics and makeup like Thriller.’ George wanted to do it in CGI.
Jackson is known as a keen Star Wars fan, with his collection of Star Wars merchandise at his Neverland ranch. Among his possessions are the lifesize figures of Darth Vader, C-3PO and Boba Fett.
A number of Star Wars fans showed great dismay or even hate with the character Jar Jar referring him as a useless ‘comic relief’. We will never know how Jackson as Jar Jar would have ended up but for people are felt a huge amount of relief that one of the most hated Star Wars character was not given to him.</
